He may be small, but he's definitely mighty—Vito the Pug has been crowned Best in Show at the 92nd National Dog Show Presented by Purina.

For the first time in two decades, a pug has won the prestigious title, according to NBC News' Rob Wile.

Vito previously claimed Best of Breed at this year's Westminster Dog Show and at the AKC National Show in 2023, racking up 25 total Best in Shows despite being just under three years old.

Despite the tough competition in the Toy category, Vito overcame all challenges and emerged victorious.

"I'm so proud of him," Koch told NBC News. "I was optimistic. I always hope to get a really good look [from the judge]. ... Vito has a beautiful head and expression. Great outline," Vito's handler Michael Scott added.

With the addition of the Lancashire Heeler, which made its debut on the AKC's official list earlier this year, 205 different breeds and over 1,900 dogs set the stage on Thanksgiving at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pennsylvania.

Last year, Stache, a Sealyham Terrier took home the prize of Best in Show, making history as the first ever of its breed to do so.

Stache became the 20th breed to win the show since it was first held on Thanksgiving in 2002. The only breeds to have won twice are the wire fox terrier and the Scottish deerhound.

Here is the list of dogs that made it to the final stage of the competition.

Herding: Rupert (Berger Picard)

Working: Monty (Giant Schnauzer)

Toy: Vito (Pug)

Sporting: Houston (Clumber Spaniel)

Hound: The Zit (Ibizan Hound)

Non-sporting: JJ (Lhasa Apso)

Terrier: Verde (Welsh Terrier)

The field featured several worthy competitors for Best in Show, including a Welsh Terrier named Verde, who was awarded Reserve Best in Show.

Contestants at the National Dog Show were evaluated based on their overall appearance, temperament and conformance to the official standards of their breed.
