Aaron Rodgers Calls Out Injury Rumors, Says He Didn't Resist Jets' Medical Scans

Andrew PetersNov 26, 2024

During an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers cleared the air on a handful of rumors.

He denied speculation that he is playing injured and rebuffed a report saying he "resisted medical scans." The veteran said he knows "my body better than anybody" and there was no "mandate" for him to get any tests done.

"I feel great right now... I felt really good last week, our last game against the Colts," Rodgers said. "I felt as good as I've felt in a long time. I will not willingly go on IR without an injury."

Earlier this week, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that Rodgers, who has dealt with hamstring, knee and ankle injuries, "resisted getting scans done, not wanting to reveal the severity of his injuries out of fear of having to come off the field."

Rodgers said that while he did not have any scans done, he met with the medical team and was cooperative with them.

"MRIs are used a lot of times to figure out what's going on if you're not quite sure," Rodgers said. "...When it comes to—especially the hamstring, I don't know what else they're talking about—I met with the guys, I let them do an examination, I told them what I was feeling and we had great communication through the whole thing."

Along with denying reports about possible injuries, Rodgers addressed a report that he wants to play in 2025, but not for the Jets.

"I'm not jumping off ship, like 'I definitely want to play, but not in New York,' Rodgers said (h/t Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper). "I don't even know if I want to play yet, but New York would be my first option."

Whether injuries have been a factor is unclear, but Rodgers' play has not been up to his standards so far this season. He's thrown for 2,442 yards, 17 touchdowns and seven interceptions, recording a 51.4 quarterback rating.

Jets interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich said Monday that the team has no plans of shutting down Rodgers and said "he's better off today than he has been as of late" coming off of New York's bye week.

The 3-8 Jets, who have lost seven of their last eight games, will be back in action on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, where they will look to salvage what is left of another disappointing season.
