Titans' Will Levis Called Out by NFL Coach: 'Don't Think He's Naturally Instinctive'

Despite helping to lead the Tennessee Titans to a surprising 32-27 upset win over the Houston Texans on Sunday, quarterback Will Levis still shows signs that concern some around the NFL.

The second-year signal-caller threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns on 18-of-24 passing in Sunday's win, but he also threw a pick-six and sustained eight sacks, the second time he's done that in a game this season.

While speaking to The Athletic's Mike Sando, an offensive coach who studied quarterbacks in the 2023 draft pointed out a key flaw in Levis' skills.

"I don't think he's naturally instinctive," the coach said. "Bad things happen as a result."

Levis has thrown for 1,447 yards, 10 touchdowns and nine interceptions in eight starts this season. His 35 sacks are the fourth-highest total in the league. Still, Tennessee head coach Brian Callahan was pleased with his performance against Houston.

"I thought he played for the most part fantastic, particularly in the first half," Callahan said. "You throw interceptions sometimes. To see him come back and fight was great. But I really was happy with the way he played. He put some great balls down the field. He did some really nice things and he protected the ball well outside the interception. That is what quarterbacking looks like."

At 3-8, the Titans rank near the bottom of the NFL and could be in the running for a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL draft. If Levis' struggles continue, the team will need to evaluate whether its best course would be to draft another quarterback to replace him as the future of the franchise.
