Video: Daniel Jones Takes QB4 Reps with Giants After Being Benched for Tommy DeVito

The New York Giants haven't just demoted Daniel Jones from starting at quarterback. They're burying him on the depth chart based on his involvement at the first practice of the week.

Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic posted video from Wednesday's practice of Jones taking QB4 reps, behind Tim Boyle on the practice squad, as the Giants prepare to host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

Head coach Brian Daboll announced Monday that Tommy DeVito was replacing Jones as the starter going forward. He said at the time that Jones would serve as the third-string quarterback behind Drew Lock, but those plans may have changed.

Daboll told reporters after Wednesday's practice that the coaching staff hasn't decided if Jones or Boyle would be the No. 3 quarterback.

Even though Jones hasn't played well this season, the response from Giants players to his benching has not been greeted warmly. They reportedly aren't thrilled that the club made a business decision to protect itself from having to pay his $23 million guarantee for 2025 if he were to suffer a major injury in the final six weeks of the season.

Per Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, one anonymous Giants player called the team "weak as f--k" for demoting Jones "because of money."

Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence didn't go that far in his criticism, but he made it known he wasn't happy about the decision.

"He's the QB1. To me, the best quarterback on the team," Lawrence said of Jones. "But they see things differently. I guess that's all that matters."

The Giants have the NFC's worst record at 2-8 entering Sunday's game against the Bucs. They have lost five straight games, including a 20-17 overtime defeat against the Carolina Panthers in Germany on Nov. 10 before their bye in Week 11.

Jones has started each of the first 10 games for the Giants. He has thrown for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions with a 63.3 completion percentage. The 27-year-old ranks 26th out of 31 qualified quarterbacks in QBR.
