Mike Tyson, Jake Paul Fight Sets Non-Las Vegas Combat Sport Record with $18.1M Gate

While fans were left disappointed with the lackluster boxing match between heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul on Friday, it's now one of the most lucrative events in boxing history.

Per ESPN's Andreas Hale, Friday's fight drew over 72,300 fans to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and brought in $18,117,072 in total revenue, setting the record for the highest-grossing gate for a combat sports event outside of Las Vegas.

Tyson vs. Paul, which was Paul's Most Valuable Promotions and streamed live on Netflix, is also now the ninth-highest combat sports gate ever in U.S. history. The previous record for an event held in Texas was $9 million for Canelo Alvarez's battle with Billy Joe Saunders in 2021.

While the main event was a lackluster bout that Paul won by unanimous decision, the co-main event that saw Katie Taylor narrowly defeat Amanda Serrano to retain her undisputed lightweight title provided a ton of fireworks for fans and will go down as one of the best fights in women's boxing history.

Netflix said that 60 million households tuned in to watch the event, which was the first combat sports event to be streamed live on the platform. .

"Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano 2 rewrote the record books, solidifying Most Valuable Promotions as a trailblazer in combat sports," Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions, said in a statement. Netflix will continue to move forward with live sports events, including NFL Christmas Gameday with the Houston Texans facing the Baltimore Ravens with Beyonce performing at halftime and WWE's Monday Night Raw moving to the platform on Jan. 6.
