Doug Pederson's Future as Jaguars HC Questioned by NFL Fans in 52-6 Loss to Lions

Taylyn HadleyNov 17, 2024

If it were up to NFL fans, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson would already be out of a job.

After a crushing 52-6 blowout by the Detroit Lions, the 2-9 Jaguars now have the worst record in the league.

Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones filled in for Trevor Lawrence on Sunday but failed to reach the end zone, with all six points coming from kicker Cam Little.

With the loss, Pederson and the Jaguars are currently enduring a four-game losing streak, including two losses at home.

After the game, Pederson told reporters that it was out of his control if he'd remain the team's head coach:

Alongside Pederson, general manager Trent Baalke's future with the franchise is also uncertain as the team enters a bye week that will serve as a critical reevaluation period for the organization.

Prior to Sunday's loss against the Lions, sources within the organization suggested that significant changes, particularly in those two positions, would not come as a surprise, according to ESPN's Ian Rapoport.

The sentiment within the organization is that a major change is inevitable.

Despite discussions about specific positional shifts, everyone is taking accountability for the franchise's disastrous season, according to Rapoport, with one source saying, "It's all of us. Everyone has a hand in it."

While the franchise may not be pointing fingers, fans certainly are—and they're all directed at Pederson.

If a head coaching change occurs, quarterbacks coach Mike McCoy, who previously served as head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2013 to 2016, would likely step in for Pederson, per Rapoport.
