Dolphins' Tyrel Dodson 'Very Pissed Off' at Seahawks After Surprisingly Being Waived

Zach BacharNov 14, 2024

Miami Dolphins linebacker Tyrel Dodson wasn't pleased after he was unexpectedly waived by the Seattle Seahawks on Monday.

"We're still trying to figure that out," Dodson said on Thursday, via David Furones of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk). "Emotionally, I'm still going through ups and downs of it. I'm pissed off. I'm very pissed off, and I'm going to probably stay pissed off until my career ends, years down the road. I'm pissed off. That's the word."

Dodson didn't have to wait long before he found a change of scenery, as he was claimed by the Dolphins on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old amassed a team-high 71 tackles in nine games with the Seahawks. He also recorded five tackles for loss, two sacks, two passes defensed and one forced fumble.

Dodson was even named a captain prior to a Week 8 matchup with his former team, the Buffalo Bills.

Seattle has lost five of its last six games. Over that span, head coach Mike Macdonald's defense has allowed 29.7 points per game.

Macdonald provided an explanation for the release on Monday.

"We really appreciate T-Dot," Macdonald said, per ESPN's Brady Henderson. "He's worked extremely hard, rehabbed throughout the offseason here. I think it was an opportunity for us when we kind of ... took a step back and realized where we were at, it was the best thing for us to move forward that way, give the other guys in the room an opportunity to step up."

"I hope those guys grab that opportunity by the horns and take it and run with it, and then it gives Tyrel an opportunity to find another spot somewhere else so he can finish the year strong," he added.

While the Dolphins own a mere 3-6 record, they're still just two wins behind the Denver Broncos for the final AFC playoff spot. With starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa back under center, Miami added Dodson to help with a potential postseason push.

The Dolphins will attempt to earn a second consecutive win when they face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
