NBPA Reaches Out to Kyle Singler's Family After Concerning Instagram Video

The National Basketball Players Association confirmed on Wednesday that it has been in touch with the family of former NBA player Kyle Singler after he posted a concerning Instagram video on Tuesday saying that he feared for his life.

"We are in contact with Kyle's family," NBPA spokesperson Sarah Houseknecht told the Associated Press. "As with all current and former members of the NBPA, we offer any and all support to players, whether through their biggest successes or times of challenge."

On Tuesday, Singler posted an Instagram video, shirtless, speaking slowly and in a distressed manner.

"I have been mistreated and abused, neglected, made into a mental example," he said. "And I fear for my life every day. And people in my community make me look out as if I'm going to be someone that's going to be a problem and make things difficult for people when I'm only trying to be helpful. I feel like I have a certain way about myself and strength and purpose that does not get valued or get treated properly."

In his second video on Tuesday, he echoed many of his concerns from the first video. In a third video on Wednesday, Singler praised the "real ones" who make sacrifices for others while pacing around his living room. In a fourth video later on Wednesday, a more cogent Singler said he's "gone through hell" in the past 10 years.

A number of NBA players immediately responded with messages of both support and concern.

"You aren't alone brother!" Philadelphia 76ers center Andre Drummond wrote in the Instagram comments under the first video. "I'm here for you."

Singler, 36, last played in the NBA for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He spent six seasons in the league between the Detroit Pistons and Thunder after a successful college career at Duke that included a national championship in 2010.
