Video: Draymond Green Says Klay Thompson 'Ghosted' Steph Curry Before Mavs-Warriors
Klay Thompson "ghosted" former Splash Brother Stephen Curry ahead of his first game back against the Golden State Warriors.
In the newest episode of his podcast, Warriors star Draymond Green said Curry "got pissed" when he was having a conversation with Thompson and got left on read.
Saying Golden State's 120-117 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday night felt like a playoff game probably undersells the general atmosphere at Chase Center. There wasn't outright hostility from Thompson or the Warriors players and fans, but he and his former teammates each had a point to prove.
With the way his time in the Bay Area ended, Thompson wanted to show the Warriors what they were missing. He had 22 points on 7-of-17 shooting and hit six three-pointers. At one point, the five-time All-Star even tried to mimic Curry's trademark shimmy celebration.
Curry and Green, for their part, weren't about to let Thompson beat them inside their own building. Curry in particular dug deep, finishing with 37 points, six rebounds and nine assists. He dropped 12 points in the fourth quarter and his reaction when he iced the game inside the final minute said it all.
A longstanding complaint about the NBA is that there aren't a lot of heated rivalries anymore. Players change teams too much to create any shared history, and legislating out a lot of contact on the floor has removed the kind of flash points that are remembered for years to come. The physicality the Detroit Pistons dished out to Michael Jordan was a defining feature of those battles.
That's why Golden State vs. Dallas had such a different vibe. Everybody knew the stakes and nobody questioned whether the key players would be up for it.
