Video: Paul George Tells Clippers Fans to 'Go F--king Support' Team After Being Booed
Paul George had a message for Los Angeles Clippers fans after being booed when he returned to Los Angeles last week.
On his podcast, Podcast P, the Philadelphia 76ers star called out fans for not filling up the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles and said they proved him right by saying the Clippers felt like the city's "B team."
"What did I say that was wrong? I did not call Clippers 'the B team.'" he said. "I said it felt like the B team… Everywhere you go, people in L.A. say you should be a Laker... But they proved me right. They aren't packing out Intuit Dome. That's ya'll home… Go f--king support them."
After spending five seasons with Los Angeles, George signed a four-year, $212 million deal with the 76ers in July.
In his first game against the Clippers since leaving this offseason, George put up 18 points and seven rebounds as Philadelphia lost 110-98. In five games with his new team, the veteran is averaging 17.2 points, 5.8 boards and 5.2 assists per game.
His time in Philadelphia hasn't gone great so far as the team is off to a 2-8 start following Tuesday's loss to the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup. The Clippers have fared a little bit better early on, sitting at 6-5 on the year despite being without star Kawhi Leonard, who sidelined indefinitely with a knee injury.
The Clippers are trying to shake the notion that they are Los Angeles' B-team, and they made progress this year by getting their own stadium. The Intuit Dome opened earlier this year in Inglewood, California, meaning the Clippers no longer have to play in the same arena as the Lakers.
As George mentioned, the Intuit Dome hasn't exactly been a packed house. The Clippers are averaging 16,827 fans in attendance per game compared to the 18,945 fans per game they had last season in Crypto.com Arena.
Their attendance will likely improve once Leonard returns and games get a bit more meaningful later on this year, but for now, George's point stands.
