Steelers' DeShon Elliott Says Dolphins Were 'Soft as F--k' During 2023 NFL Season

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel paid no mind to comments a former Dolphins player made about his team.

During an appearance on the Punch Line Podcast, Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott said the team he played on last year, Miami, was "soft as f--k."

McDaniel said he's focused on the team he has right now rather than dwelling on the past, per ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques.

"I am supremely only concerned with the 2024 Dolphins, for sure," McDaniel said. "Our team played a tough-fought game the past three weeks and ended up finding a way to win this past week. That's not the easiest thing to do.

"I just worry about this year's team. He said it on a podcast? Cool podcast."

On the podcast, hosted by Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humprey, Elliott specifically called out Miami's mental toughness.

"There were some guys who were tough, but the majority of the [Dolphins] were not mentally tough individuals," Elliott said. "So to be on a [Steelers] team with a full team of mentally tough guys going against a mentally tough team ... this is going to be fun."

Elliot, who spent just one season with the Dolphins in 2023, signed a two-year deal with the Steelers this offseason. In 15 games a season ago, he had 82 tackles, a forced fumble, an interception and seven passes defended. So far this season, he's recorded 64 tackles, a forced fumble an interception and four passes defended.

McDaniel has no choice but to ignore the comments for now as he looks to get his team out of a hole following a 3-6 start to the season. The Dolphins lost three consecutive games before beating the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. They'll look to win two games in a row for the first time this season when they face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Elliott is enjoying a solid season with his new team thus far as Pittsburgh improved to 7-2 on the year with a close win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Elliott and the Steelers have a tough matchup on deck when the Ravens come to town this week.
