WWE Rumors: Trill Williams, Former NFL DB, Signs Contract After Tryout
Former NFL defensive back Trill Williams has reportedly signed a contract with WWE to pursue a career in pro wrestling.
According to Bobby Shouse of The Dive Bar Podcast, Williams had a tryout with WWE and subsequently signed with the company.
Williams, 24, starred collegiately at Syracuse University from 2018 to 2020 as a defensive back, recording four interceptions during his time with the Orange.
After he was not selected in the 2021 NFL draft, Williams signed with the New Orleans Saints as a undrafted free agency, but he was waived shortly thereafter, and the Miami Dolphins claimed him.
Williams was active for five regular-season games during the 2021 campaign, and he saw some action on defense and special teams in the Dolphins' season finale.
After tearing his ACL in August 2022, Williams spent the entire 2022 season on injured reserve, and he was waived by the Dolphins in August 2023, effectively ending his football career.
Now, Williams will attempt to walk a path that has been traveled by many, as he transitions from football to wrestling.
Several active pro wrestling stars played football collegiately or in the NFL before making the transition, including WWE's Roman Reigns, Bron Breakker and The Rock, former WWE Superstar Baron Corbin and current TNA star Moose.
Many legendary wrestlers from the past plied their trade on the gridiron before stepping into the squared circle as well, such as Goldberg, Ron Simmons, Ernie Ladd, Wahoo McDaniel, JBL, Vader, Lex Luger, Brian Pillman and Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve "Mongo" McMichael.
While not every football player who tries wrestling is ultimately successful, the athleticism and toughness needed to play football usually translates well to wrestling.
If Williams is going to excel in wrestling then he is in the right place, as he will have the opportunity to learn and develop at the state-of-the-art WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, before potentially debuting on the NXT brand.
