Knicks Beat 76ers in NBA Cup as Fans Call Out Joel Embiid's Struggles in Season Debut

Andrew PetersNov 13, 2024

Joel Embiid's first game of the season ended with an 111-99 loss to the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup.

The Philadelphia 76ers played a mostly competitive game in their first group play game, but the Knicks built a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and never looked back.

Embiid, who had not yet played this season due to recovery from a knee injury and a three-game suspension, struggled in the loss. He shot a measly 2-of-11 from the field on his way to 13 points along with three rebounds and five assists, far from the play fans are accustomed to seeing from the former MVP.

The 76ers' newest star, Paul George, put together a solid game with 29 points and 10 boards while rookie Jared McCain continued to show his potential with 23 points.

On the Knicks' side, it was win-by-committee as six different players were in double figures. OG Anunoby led the way with 24 points and Karl-Anthony Towns added 21.

After the loss, fans called out Embiid for his rough outing in his season debut.

With the loss, the 76ers dropped to 2-8 on the year to continue what has been a disappointing start to the season.

Philadelphia fans hoped things would turn around with Embiid back, but Tuesday's loss wasn't a good indication that he'll make much of a difference. Of course, it takes time to get ramped up after missing time, so Embiid could return to MVP form in a matter of games.
