Mike Norvell: FSU OC, DC Roles Eyed by NFL Coaches and Getting 'Tremendous Interest'

Zach BacharNov 11, 2024

Florida State's vacancies on the staff under head coach Mike Norvell are drawing interest despite the Seminoles' 1-9 record in 2024.

Norvell revealed he's had "tremendous interest" in open roles from interested coaches including some who are in the NFL, according to 247Sports' Brendan Sonnone.

Following a blowout 52-3 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday, offensive coordinator Alex Atkins and defensive coordinator Adam Fuller were fired. Wide receivers coach Ron Dugans was also let go.

Norvell's team is currently in the midst of a six-game losing streak and has been outscored 123-28 over the past three weeks.

It's a surprisingly poor turnaround for the Seminoles, as they finished with a 13-1 record in 2023 that included a victory in the ACC Championship Game. While several key contributors departed over the offseason, including quarterback Jordan Travis, Florida State wasn't expected to struggle as much as it has.

In fact, the Seminoles ranked No. 10 in the first Associated Press Top 25 poll of the season.

Florida State has failed to meet expectations on both sides of the ball, owning the worst scoring offense in the ACC while also finishing with the fourth-worst scoring defense in the conference through 10 games.

Transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei opened the year as the Seminoles' starter, completing 53.8 percent of his passes for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns compared to six interceptions in five games. He suffered a broken finger against SMU on Sept. 28 and hasn't played since.

Brock Glenn and Luke Kromenhoek have replaced Uiagalelei under center, but they've completed just 43.2 percent and 44.4 percent of their pass attempts respectively. They have also combined to throw four touchdowns as well as seven interceptions.

Despite the Seminoles' disheartening season, Norvell shouldn't have trouble finding new offensive and defensive coordinators.
