Brian Daboll: Giants Will 'Evaluate' Daniel Jones, QB Options After Panthers Loss

Zach BacharNov 10, 2024

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll didn't commit to Daniel Jones as the team's starting quarterback moving forward when asked about the position by reporters on Sunday.

"I'd say we got a lot of work to do here in the next few days, in the next week, and we'll evaluate where we're at and what we need to do," Daboll said, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan.

When asked about the quarterback situation on Monday, Daboll reiterated that he would be evaluating his options:

The Giants fell to the Carolina Panthers by the final score of 20-17 on Sunday, representing their fifth straight loss.

Jones finished 22-of-37 for 190 yards and two interceptions. He also recorded 26 yards and a touchdown on the ground.

The 27-year-old's second interception was especially costly, as he was picked off by linebacker Josey Jewell in the fourth quarter with the ball at Carolina's eight-yard line.

It was another disappointing result for New York's offense, especially since the Panthers entered the game with the worst scoring defense in the NFL.

On the season as a whole, Jones has completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 2,070 yards and eight touchdowns compared to seven interceptions.

Daboll previously backed the signal-caller, telling reporters that he wasn't considering a quarterback change entering Sunday's contest (via Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News). He also explained that he wasn't adjusting anything with the practice reps of New York's passers, although that may change after the loss to Carolina.

Drew Lock is the Giants' backup quarterback, briefly receiving playing time near the end of a lopsided 28-3 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 7. Lock has 23 career starts under his belt with the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.

As New York enters a Week 11 bye, Daboll could be considering a change under center with extra time to prepare for a battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Nov. 24.
