NFL Fans Roast Daniel Jones, Tracy, Giants for Loss to Bryce Young, Chuba, Panthers

The New York Giants' season — and perhaps the Daniel Jones era for that matter — hit a new nadir as the team lost 20-17 in overtime to the Carolina Panthers in Munich, Germany on Sunday.

A 42-yard field goal by Graham Gano in the waning seconds of regulation forced overtime. Rather than giving the Giants a change to salvage victory from the jaws of defeat, the extra period only brought more embarrassment.

Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. fumbled on the first play of OT, and the Panthers recovered the ball on New York's 23-yard line.

Panthers kicker Eddy Pineiro split the uprights from 36 yards out to hand Carolina the win.

While Tracy's fumble was the most pivotal play in the game, he may escape some of the scrutiny that comes with such a costly turnover. And he can thank his quarterback for that.

Trailing by 10 points, Jones scored on a two-yard touchdown run to make it a three-point game with 8:33 on the clock in the fourth quarter.

New York's offense was presented with a golden opportunity to take the lead a little bit later thanks to a fumble by Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard. That set up the Giants with a 1st-and-10 just outside of the red zone.

They failed to come away with any points after Jones threw an interception, his second of the contest. The play was a perfect microcosm of the team's campaign between Jones not making a great throw and the ball bouncing off Tracy's hands.

Jones wound up with 190 yards and the two picks through the air.

It looks increasingly like the sixth-year signal-caller is on borrowed time in the Big Apple. The progress he made in 2022 was a mirage, and he simply isn't the solution at the position.

After a showing like Sunday, head coach Brian Daboll might feel it's time to rip the bandage off. Some on social media believe the change is warranted.

New York's organization as a whole received plenty of scorn as well:

For the time being at least, the Giants now own the worst record in the NFL all by themselves at 2-8. If fans haven't given up on the playoffs already, then they probably are now. Their mindsets are shifting instead toward the 2025 NFL draft and where the G-Men will be picking in the first round.

The higher the pick, the better shot New York will have to land a long-term replacement for Jones.

In the meantime, benching Jones might be under serious consideration if only because the Giants have a bye in Week 11. That would give backup Drew Lock a little more time to get accustomed to the starter role and for some of the inevitable discourse to quiet down a bit before the team's next game.
