Video: Austin DeAnda Gets Haircut in Middle of Boxing Fight vs. DeAundre Pettus
It's not every day you see a hair malfunction cause problems during a boxing ring, but that was the situation Austin DeAnda found himself in during his bout with DeAundre Pettus on Friday night.
After DeAnda's braids came loose mid-round, he decided to have his team cut his hair in the corner between rounds three and four.
DeAnda's braids falling out made seeing a struggle because his hair kept falling over his face and eyes, but he was able to withstand the early rounds before making the decision to get rid of his precious locks.
Pettus did get in some good shots against DeAnda when the braids fell out, though there was never any indication he was in danger of being knocked down.
There was an amusing moment in the corner when DeAnda told his team they have to cut his hair even, but they responded by saying they're not gonna worry about that.
Even though DeAnda had to lose his hair, his decision to get rid of the problem worked out in his favor. He defeated Pettus by unanimous decision in the eight-round bout with scores of 77-75, 78-74, 77-75 from the judges.
The 21-year-old DeAnda is now 16-0 in his professional boxing career. He appeared to be close to fishing Pettus in the later rounds with a flurry of hooks that left his opponent reeling.
DeAnda's win will make it easier to withstand the loss of his hair. He had a nice head of hair that surely took a lot of time to grow in and plenty of maintenance to keep flowing when he wasn't in the boxing ring.
If nothing else, DeAnda being just 21 should allow him to grow his hair back in relatively quick order if he decides to bring the look back. If he keeps having success without it, though, maybe he will just keep it short to avoid having to deal with this situation again.
