Shams: JJ Redick Has Broken 'a Number of Clipboards' in 1st Month as Lakers HC

JJ Redick has reportedly broken "a number of clipboards" in his first month as the Los Angeles Lakers' head coach, Shams Charania said Friday night on ESPN's SportsCenter.

"He's supremely passionate—and that's palpable within the roster—about how badly he wants to win," Charania said.

After starting the season 3-0, Redick's Lakers have dropped four of their last five games. The team will look to start turning things around with Friday night's 10 p.m. ET tipoff against the Philadelphia 76ers.

"He's a perfectionist," Charania said. "I had one person tell me today, he has brought a level of accountability to this Lakers group, but that also comes with a level of expectation in the standard he has held this roster to."

Redick was visibly frustrated during Wednesday night's 131-114 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, as he was seen on the broadcast slamming his chair into the ground after a missed shot by D'Angelo Russell during the third quarter.

Russell played just over six minutes in the second half of the loss, and Redick criticized his "level of compete, attention to detail" after the game.

"It just felt for us to have a chance to win this game, that was the route we wanted to take," Redick said about limiting Russell's playing time in the second half.

Redick also complimented LeBron James, who scored a season-high 39 points, by saying he "played the hardest on our team." He ended up leaving the press conference early.

The loss to the Grizzlies capped off a 1-4 road swing for the Lakers. The only win during that stretch came against the Toronto Raptors, during which Los Angeles came close to blowing a 26-point lead but held on for a 131-125 victory last Friday.

Both Anthony Davis and Rui Hachimura were sidelined for Wednesday's loss, but both could play on Friday night against the 76ers. Redick could be hoping their return and the pressure on Russell will spark the Lakers to win in their return to Los Angeles.
