Report: Charles Oliveira vs. Michael Chandler Fight at UFC 309 'Not in Jeopardy'

Despite rumors that the rematch between lightweight contenders Michael Chandler and Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 on Nov. 16 was in danger of being canceled, it sounds like fans won't have anything to be worried about.

Ariel Helwani of Uncrowned reported on Wednesday that the fight between Chandler and Oliveira is "not in jeopardy" at the moment.

Helwani added that the people he spoke to weren't even aware of the rumors floating around on social media that the fight was on the verge of being called off.

"I reached out to Chandler's team and was told news to them. I reached out to a couple people, and they said news to them," Helwani said. "Typically when something like this happens, there does seem to be smoke to the fire... but as of right this moment, I have not heard that the fight is off."

Chandler hasn't fought in two years, so his comeback fight being canceled just over a week before it's supposed to happen would be devastating. The 38-year-old was waiting to face Conor McGregor, but their fight that was scheduled for UFC 303 on June 29 was canceled after McGregor suffered a broken toe.

Chandler chose to finally move on and agreed to face Oliveira, who previously defeated him by second-round TKO to win the vacant lightweight championship at UFC 262 in May 2021. The two of them are scheduled for a five-round co-main event at UFC 309, which is headlined by a heavyweight championship fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

Fans are certainly hoping that the fight between Chandler and Oliveira will go on as scheduled, as UFC 309 is expected to be an exciting event at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
