Mike Williams, Jonathan Mingo, Herbert Fantasy Outlook After 2024 NFL Trade Deadline
A handful of notable fantasy football pieces were traded ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
The Pittsburgh Steelers acquired wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets in return for a 2025 fifth-round pick, giving Russell Wilson another option to complement George Pickens.
The Dallas Cowboys picked up an offensive piece in wide receiver Jonathan Mingo, giving the Carolina Panthers a 2025 fourth-round pick in return.
The Cincinnati Bengals, who recently lost running back Zack Moss indefinitely due to a neck injury, traded a 2025 seventh-round pick to the Chicago Bears for Khalil Herbert.
Following an eventful trade deadline, here's a closer look at the fantasy outlook for the three players mentioned.
Mike Williams, Pittsburgh Steelers
1 of 3
Mike Williams has had a slow start to the season while playing in a deep wide receiver room in New York.
The eight-year veteran has just 12 receptions for 166 receiving yards through nine games, which made him the Jets' sixth-leading receiver behind Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Breece Hall, Tyler Conklin and Davante Adams.
Now in a new offense that was desperate for another receiver, Williams has a chance to turn his season around.
While George Pickens will still likely be the No. 1 receiver in Pittsburgh, Williams should emerge as the team's No. 2 option and get plenty of targets.
The 30-year-old, who played just three games a season ago and 13 games in 2022, had 1,146 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in his last healthy season in 2021. Expect similar production once he becomes accustomed to the Steelers' offense.
If Williams is already on your roster, it's worth hanging on to him as he'll likely be good for a few more fantasy points in the coming weeks compared to the start of the season.
If you're already set in the wide receiver room, it still may be worth holding on to him for a week or two and selling high after he starts racking up some points.
Jonathan Mingo, Dallas Cowboys
2 of 3
Much like Mike Williams, Jonathan Mingo has found himself playing behind a handful of receivers in Carolina's offense.
The second-year player sits behind Ja'Tavion Sanders, Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker, all of whom have more receptions and yards than him. Diontae Johnson, who was traded to the Baltimore Ravens last week, was seeing the bulk of the Panthers' targets through the first half of the season.
In nine games, Mingo has 12 receptions for 121 receiving yards and just one catch over the past four games.
He still won't be a focal point of the offense in Dallas with CeeDee Lamb and Jalen Tolbert getting most of the targets, but he'll at least have a strong quarterback in Dak Prescott, once he's back from injury, and could have a decent second half of the season.
In terms of fantasy outlook, Mingo won't be a game-changer, but he could be worth picking up on waivers in case he becomes a primary target later on this year.
Khalil Herbert, Cincinnati Bengals
3 of 3
Khalil Herbert has seen more of the sideline than the field this season, but that's about to change in Cincinnati.
The 26-year-old has recorded just eight carries for 16 yards and a touchdown this season despite having a solid campaign last year when he totaled 611 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The main running back in the Bears offense has been D'Andre Swift, who has 125 carries for 505 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Behind him is Roschon Johnson, who has 108 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 35 carries.
With the Bengals, Herbert will almost certainly be the team's RB2 with Zach Moss out for the foreseeable future. The bulk of carries out of the backfield will still go to Chase Brown, who has 105 carries for 479 yards and a touchdown, but Cincinnati often looked to Moss before his injury as he had recorded 74 carries for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
The Bengals use their No. 2 running back about 40 percent of the time they run a play on the ground, meaning Herbert's touches should skyrocket compared to his time in Chicago.
For fantasy managers in need of some production out of the backfield, Herbert is worth a second look and should be widely available on waivers.
