Cowboys Rumors: Dak Prescott Expected to Be Out Multiple Weeks With Hamstring Injury

Andrew PetersNov 4, 2024

After staying healthy for the entirety of the 2023 season, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is now dealing with an injury.

The star suffered what owner Jerry Jones called a "high hamstring" injury against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9, per ESPN's Todd Archer.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero followed up Monday to report the injury "was worse than initially feared." He's expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks.

After suffering the injury on Sunday, Prescott seemed set on being back on the field against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 10.

"I mean, it's hard for me to say. I would say that I'll be out there next week," Prescott said, per Archer. "Once again, I've got to see. Luckily, I can say I've healed fast, I've progressed fast on injuries and things, so thankful for that. Got to get a picture of it. When we get a picture of it, I guess we'll see how bad it is.

"It'll take a lot for me to not be out there, I'll say, personally."

Amid the Cowboys' struggles, Prescott has thrown for 1,978 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Dallas fell to 3-5 with Sunday's loss to the Falcons.

At the beginning of the season, Prescott signed a historic four-year, $240 million contract extension but hasn't exactly lived up to the expectations that came with that record deal. Last season, he threw for 4,516 passing yards, 36 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

With Prescott set to miss some time, the Cowboys will likely turn to Cooper Rush under center. Rush, who is in his seventh season, has appeared in four games this season, completing 22 of his 39 passes for 167 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Dallas also has Trey Lance, who it acquired ahead of the 2023 season, as an option at quarterback. Lance, the third overall pick in the 2021 draft, has played just eight games in his career, but could perhaps see the field more now that Prescott is out.
