Brandon Marshall: Garrett Wilson's Viral 1-Handed Highlight TD 'Saved a Lot of Jobs'

Scott PolacekNov 3, 2024

Things looked quite dire for the New York Jets on Thursday.

And then Garrett Wilson put the team on his back and may have saved the season and, in the eyes of one of the team's former wide receivers, some jobs in the process.

New York trailed the Houston Texans 10-7 in the fourth quarter of Thursday's contest and were on the verge of falling to 2-7 with little hope of a turnaround. But everything changed when Aaron Rodgers threw up a deep ball in the back of the end zone and Wilson soared into the air before coming down with a one-handed catch.

He looked like the Jumpman logo when he made the one-handed catch, which ended up propelling the Jets to a 21-13 victory.

"He should put that on a T-shirt and sell it right away," former Jets receiver Brandon Marshall said in a Sunday story by ESPN's Rich Cimini. "[It's] the catch that turned the Jets' season around and saved a lot of jobs."

This is a win-now season for New York with 40-year-old Rodgers under center. The team already traded for Davante Adams and fired head coach Robert Saleh, underscoring the sense of urgency running through the franchise.

Had the Jets fallen to 2-7 with that as the backdrop, even the most optimistic fans likely would have given up on the rest of the campaign. Perhaps that would have resulted in even more firings and a complete revamp within the organization.

Instead, the team is riding some momentum after a dramatic comeback win.

It should be noted there is still plenty of work left to do for the Jets to achieve any of their goals. They are still just 3-6 and may need to finish at least 6-2 to realistically have a chance at the playoffs.

But an offense with Rodgers, Adams, Wilson and Breece Hall has the talent to do just that, which, as Marshall said, would certainly save some jobs within the organization.
