Video: Scotty Pippen Jr. Appears to Shade Darvin Ham After Grizzlies' Win vs. Bucks

Jack MurrayNov 1, 2024

Memphis Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. may have had some extra motivation for Thursday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Memphis cruised to a 122-99 victory to improve to 4-4 on the season and Pippen had 16 points, three rebounds and an assist in 27 minutes. The game came as his former coach, Darvin Ham was watching on as an assistant for the Bucks, and Pippen appeared to take a slight jab at his former coach following the game.

"I definitely took that matchup personally," Pippen said, per Grind City Media. "One of the coaches over there didn't believe in me so I definitely wanted to show him I can play some defense."

Ham was previously the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, with whom Pippen had a brief stint during the 2022-23 season. He averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds and 0.3 assists in six games under Ham. He spent the majority of his time with the franchise's G League affiliate.

He has carved out more of a role with the Grizzlies, suiting up in 21 games in 2023-24 and having played five games for the team this season. He is currently averaging 9.8 points, 7.4 assists and three rebounds in 2024-25.

While it didn't work out in Los Angeles for Pippen, he appears to have stuck in Memphis and now can focus on carving out a career and continuing to prove those who doubted him wrong.

Memphis plays Milwaukee one more time in 2024-25, so Pippen should have an additional opportunity to show Ham what he can bring to the table.
