Randy Gregory Takes Free-Agent Visit with Seahawks After Buccaneers Release
Veteran edge-rusher Randy Gregory visited with the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
Gregory signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the offseason but was released from the team in August after he failed to attend training camp.
"No, I never found out," Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles told reporters at the time when asked why Gregory didn't report. "I wish him the best. We'll move on from there. You can't miss what you never had."
Gregory, 31, has flashed upside throughout his career but has rarely offered consistency, with just 22 sacks, 27 tackles for loss and 69 quarterback hits in 72 career games.
He was suspended on two separate occasions in 2016 for violating the league's substance abuse policy, costing him 14 games. He was then suspended for the entirety of both the 2017 and 2019 seasons, two games in 2018, six games in 2020 and one game in 2022 for multiple violations.
In June, Gregory filed a lawsuit against the NFL and the Denver Broncos, saying he was discriminated after accruing $532,500 in fines for taking a medication that had THC in it during his time with the Broncos.
Per the Associated Press, Gregory "said he was prescribed Dronabinol for social anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorders but was denied accommodations to treat those disabilities with that medicine."
THC is banned by the NFL and a positive test results in fines.
As for the Seahawks, the team could use some help off the edge, as Seattle ranks just 17th in pass-rush win rate at 43 percent, according to ESPN Analytics. After starting 3-0 this season, the Seahawks have dropped four of their last five games, giving up 29 or more points in each of those losses.
Gregory's addition wouldn't make a massive impact, but he would give Seattle another option off the edge. At this point, the front seven could use the help.
