Packers' Jordan Love: It's 'Realistic' for Me to Play vs. Lions Amid Groin Injury

Andrew PetersOct 30, 2024

After suffering a groin injury in the Green Bay Packers' win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8, quarterback Jordan Love is hoping to be back on the field this Sunday.

Per USA Today's Ryan Wood, Love said he believes he's making progress toward a return and thinks "it's realistic" that he can play against the Detroit Lions.

"I'm going to take it one day at a time, do the best I can to be in here doing rehab, get with the trainers and try to get back as fast as possible," he said. "I definitely want to play."

Before the groin injury ended his day on Sunday, Love checked into the medical tent in the first quarter but returned for the Packers' next drive. He was replaced by Malik Willis in the third quarter because of a groin injury.

Love did not practice on Wednesday, instead spending time on an exercise bike. Josh Jacobs, Jaire Alexander, Evan Williams and three starters on the offensive line also didn't practice, according to ESPN's Rob Demovsky.

In Green Bay's Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Love suffered an MCL sprain that sidelined him for two games. In his absence, Willis led the Packers to a pair of wins against the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans. Willis completed four of his five passes for 56 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's win over Jacksonville.

While Willis has proved to be a solid backup for Love, Green Bay would likely prefer to have its starter on the field for Sunday's matchup against the 6-1 Lions, who sit at the top of the NFC North.

Love, in his second year as the Packers' starter, has 1,547 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions in six games, leading Green Bay to a 4-2 record when he's under center.
