MLB World Series Bracket 2024: MVP Race Before Dodgers vs. Yankees Game 4
Freddie Freeman is one Los Angeles Dodgers victory away from claiming the 2024 World Series Most Valuable Player award.
Freeman homered for the third straight game in Monday's Game 3 as part of the Dodgers' win at Yankee Stadium.
The 2021 World Series champion with Atlanta is the runaway favorite to claim the MVP.
A handful of other Dodgers players would have had cases to win MVP if Freeman hadn't hit three home runs in the series.
Tommy Edman and Teoscar Hernandez are tied with Freeman for the series lead in hits with four, but neither of them hit a walk-off grand slam in Game 1.
The New York Yankees have not had a good offensive series and they need to change that in order to keep the championship series alive for at least one more game.
Freddie Freeman
1 of 3
Freddie Freeman has homered in each of his last five World Series games.
Freeman hit solo home runs in Games 5 and 6 of the 2021 Fall Classic for Atlanta and went yard in the first three games of the 2024 event.
He has the signature moment of the series with his walk-off grand slam in Game 1. No one has come close to matching that moment in Games 2 and 3.
Freeman is tied for the series lead in hits and runs and he holds a significant edge in RBIs with seven. He's also the only player with multiple home runs in the series.
It will take a superhuman effort from one his Dodgers teammates, or an all-time collapse in which the Yankees win to take the award away from Freeman.
Tommy Edman
2 of 3
Tommy Edman has one of the best non-Freeman cases to win MVP on the Dodgers roster.
The trade deadline acquisition is 4-for-11 in the series with a home run, RBI, two doubles and a stolen base.
That's a solid stat line for the NLCS MVP, but it comes nowhere close to Freeman's accomplishments.
Edman would probably need a four-hit game with multiple home runs to come close to challenging Freeman for the award, but even then, Freeman would likely win it because of his series-altering Game 1 moment.
Giancarlo Stanton
3 of 3
Giancarlo Stanton leads the meager Yankees offense in hits with four.
He has a home run and a double in three World Series games, but like the Yankees' overall performance, it has not been good enough.
The Yankees are hitting .186 as a team and have 12 more strikeouts than hits through three games.
Stanton and the power hitters inside the Yankees lineup must find a way to take advantage of the Dodgers' bullpen game in Game 4.
The Yankees need to make it a competitive series for any of their players to be considered for MVP, but if there is a candidate, it is Stanton, who is on a six-game hitting streak and owns six postseason home runs in 2024.
