Colorado's Travis Hunter Makes Big 12 History with Weekly Offensive, Defensive Awards
Colorado two-way phenom Travis Hunter added a new accolade to his already impressive resume.
By being named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Saturday's 34-23 win over Cincinnati, Hunter is now the first player in conference history to win offensive and defensive weekly awards in the same season.
Hunter recorded nine catches for a career-high 153 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's victory, further solidifying his candidacy for the Heisman Trophy this season. He also notched two tackles and four passes defended on defense, and his performance led his head coach Deion Sanders to make a lofty declaration.
"Travis is the best football player in the country," Sanders said after the game. "We all know that. Why are we even deliberating over that?"
Hunter was also named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week in September after recording five tackles and an interception in a 28-9 win over Colorado State. He also caught two touchdown passes in that game.
Hunter now has 60 receptions for 757 yards and eight touchdowns, ranking in the top 10 nationally in each category. On defense, he has 20 total tackles, seven passes defended, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
The most dynamic player in the country, Hunter already was a consensus All-American in 2023 and won the Paul Hornung Award in recognition of his versatility. B/R NFL scout Cory Giddings ranks him as the No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 NFL draft class.
Hunter and the Buffaloes will be on a bye this week before returning to action on Nov. 9 against Texas Tech.
