Jaguars' Brian Thomas Jr. Day-to-Day with Rib Injury; Status vs. Eagles TBD

Zach BacharOct 28, 2024

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. is considered day-to-day with a chest/rib injury, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said there's a "chance" he could play in Week 9, per DiRocco.

Thomas exited in the second half of the Jaguars' 30-27 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday and did not return.

The 22-year-old told DiRocco that an MRI on Monday showed "nothing" and that "everything was good." Thomas hoped to get back on the practice field prior to Jacksonville's Week 9 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Losing Thomas for any period of time would be a tough blow to the Jaguars' offense, as he's in the midst of an impressive rookie season. He caught 33 passes for 573 yards and five touchdowns in eight games, finding the end zone in four of Jacksonville's past five contests.

The Jaguars' wide receiver depth is thin moving forward, as Thomas wasn't the only one to suffer an injury against Green Bay. Christian Kirk suffered a season-ending fractured collarbone, while Gabe Davis left the game in the second quarter due to a shoulder injury.

Parker Washington and Tim Jones should see expanded roles in Jacksonville's offense moving forward. Tight ends Evan Engram and Brenton Strange could also be targeted by Trevor Lawrence more often.

Lawrence will need to build chemistry with his new supporting cast quickly before traveling to Philadelphia if Thomas can't suit up. The Eagles are currently on a three-game winning streak, allowing 201.3 yards per game through the air this season.
