NFL Rumors: Josh Uche Traded to Chiefs; Patriots Land 6th-Round Draft Pick in 2026

The Kansas City Chiefs are the only remaining undefeated team in the NFL, and they reportedly added more depth to their defense on Monday.

According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Chiefs are acquiring outside linebacker Josh Uche from the New England Patriots. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Patriots received a 2026 sixth-round draft pick in the deal.

Uche didn't play in Sunday's 25-22 win over the New York Jets, and he didn't record a tackle in last week's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. In seven games for the Patriots this season, he recorded 13 total tackles and two sacks.

New England drafted Uche out of Michigan with a second-round pick in 2020. After a couple of nondescript years, he had a breakout season in 2022 when he finished with career highs of 27 tackles, 11.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 15 games. However, he was unable to sustain that level of production in 2023 despite appearing in the same amount of games, notching eight tackles and three sacks.

Kansas City's pass rush is led by star defensive tackle Chris Jones and rising defensive end George Karlaftis, who are tied for the team lead with three sacks apiece. However, the team ranks in the bottom half of the NFL with just 15 total sacks, which likely led to the decision to add another edge rusher.

The Chiefs improved to 7-0 with a 27-20 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. The back-to-back reigning Super Bowl champions have a win streak of 13 straight games dating back to last season.

Uche will get his first chance to show his skills with Kansas City when the team faces the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football.
