Broncos' Josh Reynolds Injured in Shooting After Leaving Denver Strip Club Last Week

Paul KasabianOct 24, 2024

Denver Broncos wide receiver Josh Reynolds was injured in a shooting after being followed from a Glendale, Colorado, gentleman's club in the early morning hours of Friday, October 18, according to court documents obtained by 9NEWS.

Per Janet Oravetz of 9NEWS, Reynolds was shot once in the left arm and once in the back of his head.

The Broncos confirmed the shooting, noting Reynolds received treatment for "minor injuries."

Per DNVR Sports' Zac Stevens, Reynolds, who is currently on injured reserve with a broken finger, was at the Broncos' facility today.

Last Friday, Reynolds and two others were at Shotgun Willie's in Glendale, Colorado, leaving around 2:45 a.m. MT. per court document information relayed by Oravetz. They had no issues in the club with other patrons.

They left in a Ford Bronco but were soon tailed by two vehicles, per Oravetz.

"When they left, two drivers began following them in vehicles and shots were fired, the court documents say. They reported to police that the suspects continued to follow them as they got onto the highway. Once there, they said the vehicle would no longer drive and they ran from the vehicle."

Reynolds and the two other men abandoned the Ford Bronco on the side of I-25. The following morning, 9NEWS noted a traffic jam on the highway due to a police investigation, showing images of the vehicle with bullet holes in the windshield.

All three men called 911 after fleeing from the vehicle. Officers and medical personnel soon responded to the area of South Quebec Street and East Union Avenue, where GPS tracking put the three callers.

The second victim was shot in the back, per court documents. The third victim was injured by shattered glass from the shooting. And all three men suffered scrapes after climbing over a fence along I-25 to flee.

Two men were arrested Wednesday in connection to the shooting, per Nate Lynn of 9NEWS.

"Police said they have identified two suspects. The day after the shooting, they arrested 42-year-old Burr Charlesworth. On Tuesday, they arrested 35-year-old Luis Mendoza. They're both being held for investigation of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree assault, according to police.

"Detectives are still working to identify more possible suspects, police said. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation."

Oravetz provided more information regarding both suspects, particularly on Mendoza, who appeared to be tracking and watching the Reynolds group for nearly three hours.

"According to court documents, a video from the strip club shows Mendoza entering the club just after midnight. The documents say Mendoza did not engage with the entertainers but instead watched the victims. As they left, Mendoza followed them out, the documents say.

"Several other vehicles were seen pulling into the lot and people inside them appeared to be waiting for the victim to leave, according to the documents. Three vehicles were seen following the victims, the documents show.

"In most of the videos reviewed by investigators, Mendoza's vehicle was directly behind the victims.

"Following his arrest, Charlesworth told investigators he was 'helping' a friend who had asked him to follow the victims due to a prior conflict. He denied he ever shot at the victims and said the gunfire came from the other vehicles. He refused to describe those vehicles, according to the court documents."

Reynolds is an eight-year NFL veteran who has played for the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions and Broncos. He is in his first season in Denver after signing a two-year contract in free agency last offseason. Reynolds caught 12 passes for 183 yards and a touchdown.

The former Texas A&M star suffered the fractured finger while catching a touchdown in a 34-18 win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Oct. 6. He must miss a minimum of four games after being placed on IR, so he will be sidelined for at least two more weeks.

Per Parker Gabriel of the Denver Post, Reynolds has done conditioning work on a side field at the Broncos' facility each of the past two days while the team practices, which is certainly a positive and encouraging sign moving forward.
