Goldberg Talks Gunther Confrontation amid WWE Rumors: 'Don't Ever Talk S--t About Me'

Mike ChiariOct 24, 2024

WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg commented Thursday on his confrontation with world heavyweight champion Gunther at Bad Blood earlier this month.

Speaking on his CarCast podcast (h/t Subhojeet Mukherjee of Ringside News), Goldberg discussed the incident and what led to him jumping the barrier and getting into the ring:

"I should have known. I should have known somebody was going to try and mess with me. In Atlanta, no less. We were having a great time. Gunther, I don't want to make anything more of it than it was, but you know me. I'm not going to sit there and let some dude talk s--t. Period. End of story.

"What started out to be an innocent attendance of a pay-per-view turned out to being insulted by one of their current champions. I don't care where we were, I would have done the same thing anywhere. It being Atlanta, my adopted hometown, I ain't dead yet. As long as I'm breathing, don't ever talk s--t about me, especially my family. When he brought [my son] Gage into it and me being a dad, that was it. It was nothing more than that. Next question."

Several WWE legends were invited to watch Bad Blood with Goldberg being among them. When WWE head of creative Triple H unveiled the Crown Jewel Championship, Gunther showed up to cut a promo and took aim at Goldberg.

In addition to telling Goldberg that he was lying when he told Bret Hart that Goldberg was his favorite wrestler, Gunther also suggested that Goldberg was a bad father.

Seated next to his son and wife, a furious Goldberg jumped over the barricade and tried to get after Gunther, but security broke them up.

The entire scenario was clearly a storyline, and Goldberg seemed to talk about it in character on his podcast, which suggests WWE may be building toward a match between Goldberg and Gunther.

WrestleVotes (h/t Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported this week that WWE has future plans for Goldberg and it was speculated that an angle could potentially take place between Goldberg and Gunther at Crown Jewel on Nov. 2 to set up a match between them.

Gunther is facing WWE champion Cody Rhodes for the Crown Jewel Championship on that show, and Goldberg interfering would be reason enough for The Ring General to want to wrestle him.

Goldberg, 57, has not competed in a match since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February 2022, but a clash with Gunther could be the ideal way for Goldberg to conclude his in-ring career.
