Saints' Alvin Kamara Says He's Played Through Broken Hand Injury Since Week 5

Paul KasabianOct 23, 2024

New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara told reporters Wednesday that he's playing through a broken hand, an injury he suffered against the Kansas City Chiefs on Oct. 7.

"Nobody is 100 percent in this league," Kamara said, per Matthew Paras of The Times-Picayune and The Advocate.

Kamara also revealed after his team's Sept. 29 game against the Atlanta Falcons that he's playing through broken ribs, an injury he's still managing and playing through.

The eight-year veteran has played two games since the Chiefs matchup, amassing 50 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and 38 receiving yards on 11 receptions. For the season, Kamara has gained 690 yards from scrimmage and scored seven touchdowns.

Kamara made clear that sitting out due to the injuries isn't a consideration as long as he can still protect himself.

Kamara just agreed to a two-year, $24.5 million extension that will keep him in New Orleans through the 2026 season. He spoke Wednesday about how much the city and the team has meant to him in the aftermath of that contract.

The franchise legend is certainly one of the bright spots on a shorthanded team that has experienced terrible luck with injuries, including the losses of wide receiver Rasheed Shaheed (for the season), wideout Chris Olave and quarterback Derek Carr.

A dominant 2-0 start that saw the Saints outscore the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys 91-29 has given way to a five-game losing streak. New Orleans has lost those games by an average of 20 points.

Kamara and the Saints will look to get back on the winning track on Sunday, when they visit the Los Angeles Chargers.
