Lakers' LeBron James: Bronny and I Catching Lobs Would Be Equivalent of Griffey HRs

As LeBron and Bronny James prepare to play in their first regular-season game as teammates with the Los Angeles Lakers, the four-time NBA MVP is already dreaming about a moment he hopes to share with his son.

LeBron told reporters on Tuesday as part of an anecdote about a conversation he had with Ken Griffey Jr. that a goal of his to have back-to-back lobs with Bronny.

The moment when LeBron and Bronny get on the floor together during a game is expected to come early in Tuesday's season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

When it occurs, it will mark just the fourth instance of a father-son duo playing together in one of the major American professional sports leagues. The most recent example came in 2001 when Tim Raines and Tim Raines Jr. played for the Baltimore Orioles.

Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. are perhaps the most famous recent example because they hit back-to-back homers playing for the Seattle Mariners on Sept. 14, 1990.

LeBron and Bronny did play in one preseason game together against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 6.

The only thing missing from that game was an assist from father to son, or vice versa. They had a chance to pull it off in the second quarter when LeBron found an open Bronny for three, but the young James was unable to connect from behind the arc.

As soon as Bronny checks in to the game on Tuesday, it will mark the culmination of LeBron's long-stated desire to play in the NBA with his son. It will also be the start of something new for the 20-year-old Bronny on his journey to carving out his own path as a pro.

LeBron, Bronny and the Lakers will host the Minnesota Timberwolves at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
