NBA Rumors: Quentin Grimes, Mavs Have Discussed 3-Year Contract Extension After Trade

Jack MurrayOct 20, 2024

Quentin Grimes could stick with the Dallas Mavericks for the foreseeable future.

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Grimes and the Mavericks are "discussing three-year extension scenarios" and that he could be a candidate to receive a new contract prior to Monday evening.

"Dallas' Quentin Grimes, sources say, has emerged as a potential contract extension recipient before Monday's 6 p.m. ET deadline," Stein wrote. "Word is that the Mavericks and Grimes have been discussing three-year extension scenarios."

Grimes was dealt to Dallas in June from the Detroit Pistons and had previously played for the New York Knicks. He averaged seven points, two rebounds and 1.3 assists in 2023-24.

He adds depth to a Mavericks guard group that is led by Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving. Dallas went 50-32 in 2023-24 and reached the NBA Finals, losing to the Boston Celtics in five games. Grimes would have been a solid addition to that roster and will get a chance to carve a role out for a promising team.

He is playing on a club option in 2024-25 and could be a restricted free agent following the season. However, Stein's report shows that Dallas could be ready to commit to him and make him a steady piece on the roster.
