Davante Adams to Play for Jets vs. Steelers in Return from Injury after Raiders Trade

One day after trading for Davante Adams, the New York Jets confirmed they anticipate their new wide receiver to be on the field in Week 7.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich told reporters on Wednesday that Adams is expected to play against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.

After watching an opportunity to beat the division-rival Buffalo Bills on Monday night slip through their fingers, the Jets wasted no time in making their move for Adams.

New York sent a 2025 conditional third-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Adams on Tuesday. It was unclear at the time when the star wideout would make his debut for the team after missing the previous three weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Now that it's expected Adams will play right away, the main question is how quickly can he learn the play book. It might not take long to get acclimated because some of the key components of this offense are familiar to him from his days with the Green Bay Packers.

Adams' connection with the Aaron Rodgers is the most obvious link on the Jets. Nathaniel Hackett, who remains offensive coordinator despite losing play-calling duties, worked on the Packers coaching staff from 2019 to '21.

It would stand to reason that new offensive play-caller Todd Downing will solicit input from Rodgers and Adams about what they want to do and what worked for them in the past to make this acclimation period as simple as possible.

The Jets are throwing Adams into the deep end against a Steelers defense that ranks second in the NFL in points allowed per game, led by a pass-rush duo in T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward who have combined for 20 quarterback hits and 7.5 sacks.

Adams is familiar with the Steelers defense because, despite not playing in the game, he was with the Raiders last week when they played Pittsburgh.

The Jets and Raiders will play at Allegiant Stadium on Sunday at 8:20 p.m. ET.
