Travis Kelce Talks 'Mixed Feelings' Attending Yankees vs. Guardians with Taylor Swift

Paul KasabianOct 16, 2024

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce attended Game 1 of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and New York Yankees on Monday.

Kelce spoke about the experience with his brother, Jason Kelce, on their New Heights podcast. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end noted "mixed feelings" about the experience, with the downside being that the Guardians fan saw his team lose 5-2.

"It was mixed feelings because I was there trying to have some fun with Tay and everybody. All our friends … came. We had an unbelievable crew with us and hanging with us. It was fun," Kelce said (h/t Leah Bitsky of the New York Post).

Kelce is from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, so it's no surprise that he supports the team. Cleveland hasn't won a World Series since 1948 despite making the playoffs 13 times (including the World Series three times) from 1995-2023.

Naturally, it's tough for any fan to see their team come so close but never earn championship glory fall short, so it's understandable that Kelce had mixed feelings here.

"It's the Bronx Bombers, and I'm at Yankee Stadium and the playoffs, and I'm over here cheering for the Guards 'cause I'm a Cleveland kid and I want to see Cleveland win a f--king World Series," Kelce said, per Bitsky.

But he made sure to point out the positives of the experience.

"Even though the Guards couldn't pull it off, it was still an exciting game," he said, per the New York Post. "It was cool to see Yankee Stadium because I always wanted to see that thing in person, in a playoff game, in a hostile environment, and it didn't disappoint, man."

Kelce then added: "The Yankees, the fans, the players, everybody involved, man, it was awesome."

Kelce just enjoyed some down time after the 5-0 Chiefs had a bye week. But he's back in the mix this week with the Chiefs looking ahead to a huge road game against the host San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, marking a rematch of Super Bowl LVIII.

As for the Guardians, they've fallen behind two games to zero in the best-of-seven series after losing 6-3 to New York in Game 2. But now the series heads to Cleveland, where the team can certainly snatch momentum back. Game 3 is set for Thursday at 5:08 p.m. ET.
