UFC Legend Donald Cerrone Ends Retirement, Eyes 50 Career Fights with New Contract

Andrew PetersOct 15, 2024

Donald Cerrone isn't quite ready to call it a career.

The UFC legend is coming out of retirement to seek an unprecedented 50 combined fights in the UFC and WEC, per ESPN's Brett Okamoto. The 41-year-old retired in July 2022 after his 48th fight.

To make his UFC return, he would need to reenter the company's anti-drug program for a certain amount of time, though there is a possibility the UFC can allow him to bypass that program in special circumstances.

In a video posted to his Instagram, Cerrone said he is eyeing two more bouts to reach the historic 50-fight mark.

"I want to go back and get two more fights," said Cerrone. "When I retired, I told you I was getting my hair done and [I'd] get on steroids. The No. 50 [Zuffa] has been sitting on my mind for a while. So, I've been working with Transcend for the last two years, taking [testosterone-replacement therapy] and a bunch of peptides.

"Now, we've got a protocol for all you people that, 'Oh, what if you get on it, you can't ever come off it.' Well, I now have to come off and piss clean, and fight in a few months. Watch this."

Not only is Cerrone nearing the 50-fight mark, he's chasing a few more goals, including the "most wins in UFC history, most finishes, most bonuses, most walks to that cage," he said on Instagram.

He is currently tied for the second-most wins in UFC history with 23 and has the third-most total appearances with 38. He needs one win to tie the all-time win record but would need a few more appearances to reach Jim Miller's record of 44 appearances.
