Colts HC: Anthony Richardson to Play Over Flacco vs. Dolphins Barring Injury Setback

After missing the last two weeks due to an oblique injury, quarterback Anthony Richardson is expected to be the starter under center this week.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Colts head coach Shane Steichen said Richardson will start over Joe Flacco against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday barring any setbacks from his oblique injury.

Richardson, who suffered the injury in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers, was not quite healthy enough to play on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, but the Colts did have him listed as an emergency third quarterback in case Flacco and Sam Ehlinger went down with injuries.

Now with another week to recover, Indianapolis feels he will be ready to go this week.

Through four games, Richardson has 654 passing yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions, though he played just briefly in Week 4 before sustaining the injury. The Colts have split their two games without Richardson, losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars but beating the Titans on Sunday.

Flacco, who took over for Richardson when he went down against the Steelers, has 716 passing yards, seven touchdowns and an interception in his three appearances. His numbers got a major boost when posted 359 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Jaguars.

Despite solid play from the veteran Flacco, Steichen feels it's best to look to his young quarterback in Richardson, who played just four games during his rookie year a season ago after suffering a concussion in September and a season-ending shoulder injury in October.
