George Pickens, Jourdan Lewis Fined for Altercation in Cowboys' Win over Steelers

Zach BacharOct 12, 2024

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens and Dallas Cowboys cornerback Jourdan Lewis were both fined for their actions at the end of the Cowboys' 20-17 win over the Steelers in Week 5.

According to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, Lewis was fined $11,255 for taunting the receiver at the end of the game after recovering a fumble to seal the victory.

Pickens also received a $10,230 fine for subsequently grabbing Lewis' facemask, which sent the cornerback to the ground.

The Steelers wideout was limited to just three catches for 26 yards against Dallas. It's worth noting that Pickens was on the field for a career-low 34 snaps.

As for Lewis, he finished with one tackle and one pass defensed in addition to his game-ending fumble recovery.

He took time to trash talk Pickens as he was entering the locker room after the contest, calling the receiver "weak."

Lewis walked back his comments when speaking to reporters on Wednesday, though.

"Honestly, I shouldn't have said that. It was an emotional game," Lewis said, per Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "There was some chatter on the field. One thing led to another. He had a moment, I had a moment. It was too emotional, I shouldn't have said it."

Pickens also generated attention for the explicit message of "Open F--king Always" on his eye black during the game. ESPN's Brooke Pryor reported on Wednesday that the NFL was reviewing the message for a possible fine under the league's uniform policy.

After starting the season with a 3-0 record, the Steelers have dropped two straight games. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have won two consecutive contests after opening the year with a 1-2 record through three weeks.
