During ESPN's College GameDay on Saturday, Oregon's mascot held a sign up telling actress Sydney Sweeney to "call me back." Sweeney let him down gently in an Instagram story:

In general, it was an eventful morning for the Ducks mascot.

Listen, if a friendship bracelet actually played a role in connecting Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce to Taylor Swift, we can't totally rule out the idea that making a sign for a famous actress to display on GameDay is automatically doomed to fail.

The Oregon Duck is nothing if not persistent. Maybe the gambit will work one of these days.

It's too bad Sweeney isn't more immersed in the world of college football. If she wanted to twist the knife while turning The Duck down, she would've called him "Puddles."
