Report: Robert Saleh's Meeting About Jets Firing 'Literally Took 10 Minutes'

Robert Saleh's firing by the New York Jets was reportedly not a drawn-out process.

During an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast (7:00 mark), Peter Schrager of NFL Network and Fox Sports reported that Saleh's firing meeting took approximately 10 minutes.

"Tuesday morning, Saleh comes in. He's told, 'Just come and sit down,' and Joe Douglas isn't the one calling him in," Schrager said. "It's both Johnson brothers and maybe a couple other people on the highest of levels. And it literally took 10 minutes, maybe even less. And it was, 'Thanks for your service here. We need a spark. We don't like the way the team's playing. You're done and there will be no contract extension.'"

The decision came after the Jets dropped a Week 5 matchup in London to the Minnesota Vikings. New York fell to 2-3 with the loss that came at the hands of former quarterback Sam Darnold.

Saleh finished his tenure as the Jets head coach with a 20-36 record. The team failed to post a winning season or reach the postseason but the hope is still alive to clear both of those hurdles in 2024.

New York has four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers under center and sits behind only the Buffalo Bills for first place in the AFC East. The Jets split the season series with Buffalo in 2023 and will hope the interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich will light a fire that helps the team reach a new gear for the remainder of the season.

The Jets have six games remaining against teams that reached the postseason in 2023, including two against the Bills and division-rival Miami Dolphins. The path is paved for success going forward, but the franchise hopes that the move to Ulbrich was the right one to reach that goal.
