Video: Duke HC Jon Scheyer Says He Beat Jayson Tatum in 1-on-1 Last Time They Played

Duke men's basketball head coach Jon Scheyer said during an interview with The Field of 68 that he beat Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum in one-on-one last summer.

The 37-year-old Scheyer was a high school basketball star for Glenbrook North in Illinois, becoming a 5-star recruit and a McDonald's All-American.

He signed with Duke and played there for four seasons, earning consensus second-team All-American and first-team All-ACC honors in 2010 en route to helping lead the Blue Devils to a national championship.

Scheyer played professionally overseas for a few years before returning to Duke as an assistant in 2014. He was an assistant coach when Tatum played for the Blue Devils during his lone season in Durham (2016-17).

So Scheyer could certainly hold his own, but the 26-year-old Tatum, obviously, is one of the best basketball players in the world right now. He's made the All-NBA First Team each of the past three years and just led the Celtics to an NBA title, averaging 26.9 points per game.

So if Scheyer beat him in one-on-one recently, then that's an incredible upset and accomplishment. We'll see if Tatum is asked about the one-on-one game after Scheyer brought to light.
