Andrew PetersOct 20, 2024

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Aidan O'Connell will miss four to six weeks and be placed on injured reserve after fracturing his thumb during Sunday's 20-15 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo:

O'Connell exited the field and went to the locker room in the first quarter after taking a hit to his passing hand, per ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. Raiders quarterback Gardner Minshew checked in for him under center after the injury.

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce had named O'Connell the starting quarterback on Oct. 9.

Minshew started the first five games for the Raiders, throwing for 1,014 passing yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions on the way to a 2-3 start. Las Vegas ultimately decided to go with O'Connell in Week 6 and he had 227 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception in his first start of the year, which was a loss to the Steelers.

O'Connell was off to a decent start in his second game starting under center, throwing for 52 yards on 6-of-10 passing before going down with the injury.
