Raiders' Jakobi Meyers: Davante Adams Trade Rumors 'Gonna Be a Distraction'

Timothy RappOct 2, 2024

Trade rumors swirled on Tuesday regarding Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams, with reports that he requested to be dealt. On Wednesday, his teammates weighed in on the situation.

"It's gonna be a distraction, it is what it is," fellow receiver Jakobi Meyers told reporters. "You understand that. It's more about making plays regardless... and move forward. You just have to focus on what you've got, and that's football."

Losing Adams would obviously be an enormous blow. The star wideout either led or was tied for the team lead in catches, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

This year, in three games, he's notched 18 receptions for 209 yards and a touchdown, ranking third on the team in catches, second in receiving yards and tied for first in receiving touchdowns despite missing a game.

Adams didn't seem particularly happy with the Raiders last season either, however, toiling under poor quarterback play from players like Jimmy Garoppolo, Aidan O'Connell and Brian Hoyer. He was the subject of trade rumors before the 2023 deadline.

And then earlier this season, more rumors came out suggesting he was displeased with the organization, though he shot those down.

It's unclear if Gardner Minshew's performance this year has anything to do with Adams' unhappiness in Las Vegas—it's possible the veteran wideout isn't thrilled with the coaching staff, especially after an apparent social media gaffe from head coach Antonio Pierce—but it does feel as though a divorce is imminent.

Whatever the cause of the tension, the rest of the roster now has to prepare for the possibility of life without Adams.

"We've got to focus on the task at hand with who we have here," Minshew told reporters Wednesday. "Obviously, everybody understands Davante's situation and we all love Davante. But understand, he's got to make the best decision for him, our team has to make the best decision for us. We've got to keep moving forward and try to figure out how to win games."
