NFL Rumors: Terrell Owens' Son Terique Rejoins 49ers on Practice Squad Contract

After recovering from a hand injury, wide receiver Terique Owens is set to continue his NFL career.

Owens, the son of Hall of Famer Terrell Owens, agreed to re-sign with the San Francisco 49ers and will join their practice squad, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. The undrafted free agent spent part of the offseason with the 49ers before being waived following his injury.

Garafolo reported on Aug. 7 that Owens suffered a small fracture in his right hand that was expected to sideline him for five to seven weeks.

Prior to his injury, the 24-year-old showed flashes of his famous lineage with a strong start to training camp that included catching touchdown passes in one-on-one and 11-on-11 drills.

Owens began his collegiate career in 2018 at Contra Costa College and transferred to Florida Atlantic in 2020. After appearing in just four games that year as a redshirt sophomore, he transferred once again to Missouri State, where he spent the next three seasons and recorded 46 catches for 765 yards and four touchdowns across 27 games.

The 49ers were among the teams that attended Owens' pro day in March, where he posted a 4.51 40-yard dash. He signed with San Francisco after the 2024 NFL draft, joining the franchise with which his father began his legendary career in 1996.

Terrell Owens spent eight seasons with the 49ers and racked up 592 receptions, 8,572 receiving yards and 81 touchdowns, ranking second in franchise history in all three categories behind the legendary Jerry Rice. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018 and San Francisco's team Hall of Fame the following year.

The 49ers (2-2) will be hosting the Arizona Cardinals (1-3) in an NFC West matchup on Sunday.
