Kyrie Irving Says Klay Thompson Addition Means Mavericks' Dreams 'Can Be Possible'
Veteran shooting guard Klay Thompson's arrival to the Dallas Mavericks has the team believing it can make another run to the NBA Finals and win the title this time around.
"I feel like our dreams can be possible because he's here now," point guard Kyrie Irving said at media day on Monday, per The Athletic's Joe Vardon.
Thompson was a key member of the Golden State Warriors dynasty that won four NBA titles in eight years. He became a free agent after a tumultuous 2023-24 season and chose to join the Mavs, forming a talented trio with Irving and star point guard Luka Dončić.
Dallas made a surprising run to the 2024 NBA Finals but fell to the Boston Celtics in five games. One of the things that doomed the team was its lack of shooting, and Thompson is expected to help improve in that area.
"Pfft, unbelievable," Dončić said. "He's a four-time champion, an amazing player. … I think the spacing is going to be perfect for us."
The Mavs will open their 2024-25 campaign against the San Antonio Spurs on Oct. 24, giving fans a first look at the team's new star trio in action.
