Taylyn HadleySep 30, 2024

Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence will be placed on injured reserve in the next few days, according to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News.

With Lawrence out, the Cowboys are discussing their next steps, which could include elevating DE Carl Lawson from the practice squad for the third time—the NFL's maximum for a season—along with working out several other players.

Lawrence was the drafted to the Cowboys in 2014 at No. 34, averaging 54 tackles per season and 7.4 sacks.

The 32-year-old in his eleventh year started all four games of the 2024 season, recording 14 tackles, one forced fumble and three sacks for the 2-2 Cowboys.

A potential replacement, Lawson played three seasons at Auburn before being drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Lawson has played in two games this season for Dallas.

Backup DE Tyrus Wheat will likely step in for Lawrence as well. Wheat has tallied three tackles over two games this season.

Dallas faces the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 6.
