Jalen Milroe Wows CFB Fans as Alabama Holds On for Epic Win vs. Carson Beck, Georgia
Alabama arguably cemented itself as the best team in college football on Saturday as it downed Georgia 41-34.
The game seemed out of hand before the first half was over. No. 4 Alabama piled on 21 points in the first quarter and added another touchdown early in the second. After the No. 2 Bulldogs finally got on the board, the Tide forced a safety to take a 30-7 lead into the second half.
But then Georgia came storming back, scoring a touchdown in the third quarter while holding Alabama to a field goal. In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs scored 20 unanswered points, taking a 34-33 lead with two and a half minutes to play.
Alabama needed just one play to regain the lead as Jalen Milroe connected with 17-year-old freshman receiver Ryan Williams for a 75-yard touchdown to make it 41-34 after converting the two-point try.
Though it allowed Georgia to make a massive comeback, Alabama's defense stepped up in the most critical moment of the game. Freshman cornerback Zabien Brown picked off Carson Beck in the end zone to seal the win for the Tide.
With the win, Milroe further established himself as a frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, picking up 374 passing yards, 117 rushing yards and four total touchdowns.
Had Georgia completed the comeback, it would have been the largest comeback in school history and the biggest comeback in a top-five win in NCAA history. Instead, Kalen DeBoer has the biggest win in his early career at Alabama.
While the Bulldogs couldn't leave Tuscaloosa with a win on Saturday, it's clear Georgia is once again going to be a national title contender.
And fans could get another matchup like Saturday's, whether that be in the SEC Championship game or the College Football Playoff.
