Mitchell Robinson Reacts to Karl-Anthony Towns Trade with IG Photo: 'Longest Knick'

Jack MurraySep 28, 2024

Mitchell Robinson is now the most veteran New York Knick.

Following the Knicks blockbuster trade that sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves for Karl-Anthony Towns, Robinson became the longest-tenured Knicks player and the only one left from the 2020-21 team that ended a seven-year postseason drought.

He took to social media following this move and acknowledged his status as the "longest Knick" and saying that he is a "really great vibe."

Robinson is entering his seventh season in the NBA and has spent his entire career with the Knicks franchise.

The photo showcased the entire 2020-21 Knicks roster with everyone but himself in grey, referencing the fact that he is the only one remaining. He also added a comment saying that risked his body for the team.

This cryptic post not only shows that he will miss Randle but also that Towns' presence puts his role on the team in jeopardy. Robinson and Towns are both centers, although Robinson will miss "at least three months" and the team isn't exactly sure when he will be ready to play, according to Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

That will give Towns some time to solidify his place on the team without Robinson vying for minutes. While Towns has excelled in a two-center system in Minnesota, the move and the remaining term on his contract could signal that Robinson will be playing elsewhere in the near future.

Robinson averaged 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 31 games. Towns will provide a significant upgrade in offensive production but is viewed as a premium rim protector.

He has two seasons remaining on his current contract and could be an intriguing option for teams looking for a defensive star in the paint. However, he could also be an intimidating depth piece for a New York core that is growing and extend his tenure even further.
