Cowboys Rumors: Micah Parsons Has High-Ankle Sprain Injury, Could Miss 2-4 Weeks

Adam WellsSep 27, 2024

Even though the Dallas Cowboys escaped from Thursday's game against the New York Giants with a 20-15 victory, the big concern for the team right now is Micah Parsons' ankle injury.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Friday that Parsons has been diagnosed with a high-ankle sprain and that his status has yet to be determined. The Dallas Morning News' Calvin Watkins reported Parsons "could miss between" two and four weeks.

Later on Friday, Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Jon Machota of The Athletic) that Parsons is "gonna be week to week" and that he hasn't been ruled out for next Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers

Parsons, who left the game late in the fourth quarter and was carted from the sideline to the locker room, told reporters he had an MRI scheduled for Friday after his X-rays came back negative.

The injury occurred when Parsons lined up in the middle of the defensive line. He was engaged with Giants center John Michael Schmitz Jr. and at the same time, Giants guard Greg Van Roten fell down and landed on the back of the Cowboys star's lower left leg.

Parsons was able to walk to the sideline, albeit with a noticeable limp. He was then taken from the sideline to the locker room on a cart to undergo X-rays.

Parsons was one of two key Cowboys defenders who was injured during the game. DeMarcus Lawrence didn't return after leaving the third quarter with a foot injury. Lawrence was later diagnosed with a foot sprain, with head coach Mike McCarthy telling reporters that Lawrence's injury is "worse" than Parsons'.

The Cowboys do have the benefit of two extra days off by playing on Thursday night, so Parsons and Lawrence will get additional time to heal before the matchup with the Steelers.

Parsons is off to a slow start this season under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. The three-time Pro Bowler does have six quarterbacks hits, but just one sack through four games.

Thursday's win improved the Cowboys' record to 2-2, though they are still looking to find a rhythm on offense. One encouraging sign was the run defense bounced back in a big way, allowing just 26 yards four days after giving up 464 yards on the ground in the past two games combined.
